Monday 7th July
PK105 Boofzheim to PK109 Obenheim
La Koala left early-ish to go to
Kraft, we decided to just go a short distance today, mainly to find a mooring
not under trees, as we were covered in leaves, twigs and muck after the storm
last night. Our new mooring is great, we
are on pins, and ground anchor, but there are no over hanging trees.
We did some cleaning of the boat, a
BBQ lunch with some celebratory sparkling wine which knocked us out, an afternoon
nap, a short bike ride into Obenheim, all in lovely sunshine. Weather forecast that I had been using all
said heavy rain all day today, none appeared until this evening. Its now raining really heavily, great, it
will give the boat an extra clean!
Le Koala leaving This canal is a friendly canal as it seems like it suitable to to moor up almost anywhere along its banks |
A fun Lock |
Almost everything at the lock has a smiley face! |

An old house at Obenheim with the date 1752 |
A chilled self service cabinet on the road side at Obenheim where you can buy you lettuce, eggs etc |
Tuesday 8th July
Obenheim to Kraft
3 locks, 7.5km 1hr 45mins
This is a very easy canal, almost
straight, a lot of it tree lined with trees, or over looking crops, and if you
wanted to you could moor almost anywhere as it is wide and of good depth. Unfortunately we had the rain that was
forecast for Monday, so it was wet weather gear for me.
We moored at the VNF wharf at
Kraft. At the wharf there was an advert
for an Auberg that was a shortish walk so we went there for lunch, luckily it
had stopped raining.
Wednesday 9th July
Kraft to Strasbourg
6 locks 19km 4 hours
leaving our VNF mooring at Kraft Just starting to rain |
We left Kraft in the rain, and it
has rained just about all day, which is
shame as it is a beautiful canal, a lot of it is tree lined with Plane
trees. On our way I rang the Kojac
Marina at Strasbourg to see if they had any mooring spaces and I was told
“Oui”, which made us very happy, as we only realised today that the other
mooring we were looking at on the other side of Strasbourg only allowed 48
hours and we want to spend a week here.
We arrived in the pouring rain, just at their lunchtime, so when I rang
the marina again, to find out where we could tie up as it wasn’t obvious, there
was no answer. We didn’t want to moor
alongside any boat without permission and luckily the captinaire must have seen
us as he shouted to us where to moor. We
are moored alongside another barge for today and then we are moving to a
pontoon when a cruiser leaves tomorrow.
We are not going anywhere at the moment as it is absolutely bucketing
down. We haven’t had good internet since
last Friday so it has given me chance to update the blog. The forecast is a little bit iffy for the
next few days. We hope it improves to
give us a good chance to do some sightseeing around Strasbourg; we also want to
go by train to Colmar.
