Sunday
13th April
Pete arrived
at 10am to service our boiler, all was fine, which is good to know.
In the
afternoon we cycled along by the side of the canal to Les Roches du
Saussois. The limestone rocks are very popular with rock climbers.
A beautiful view from the galley window |
Pete and Leon off to their next job at Briare |
Bridge over the River Yonne to Lucy-sur-Yonne |
Back to Mailly-le-Chateau |
Monday 14th April
Mailly-le-Chateau to Châtel-Censoir
4 locks and10km
We got up early (for us) and left our mooring at 8.30am. It had been very cold in the night and the boat was covered in ice, but it was a beautiful morning, sunshine again.
We had
an easy trip to Châtel-Censoir where we have moored up in the same spot as last
year. We got here before 12 noon so we
beat the lock keepers lunch hour. We had
nice and friendly lock keepers today.
Just as we arrived at Châtel, we met a lovely couple who lived in Switzerland. They were on holiday on a hire boat. We invited them over to have look at Rangali as they showed an interest in possibly owning their own barge one day as they had enjoyed their holiday so much on the Canal du Nivernais. Wolfgang and Noëlle kindly brought a bottle of wine over (and a lemon for good health/luck) and we spent a very pleasant hour or so chatting to them and of course drinking the wine (but not sucking the lemon)! It was a shame they were leaving that afternoon as we really enjoyed their company.
Its a nice mooring here, very close to the railway line but its not very busy, and the trains seem very quiet. The birds are busy singing their hearts out again. We keep hearing woodpeckers tapping away.
